Despite the volume of statewide races in today’s Primary Election, we will forgo conclusions on both sides of the aisle. The exception being the US Senate Race on the Democratic side between Lt Governor Peggy Flanagan (D) and Congresswoman Angie Craig (D-MN02).
We expect this will be a close contest. Our thoughts are a 3-4% margin between the two, and we are hoping the Minnesota voting public is intelligent enough to pick Craig because Flanagan will fall to Michele Tafoya (D) and her Paul Wellstone-inspired dream will not make her Senatorial career a possibility.
The reasons are clear: Flanagan didn’t even do her job, which is largely attending funerals, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, and being ready to take the mantle when the Governor is incapacitated. She was found to be delinquent in even showing up as the chair of the state’s Advisory Committee on Capitol Area Security. As a member of the Minneapolis School Board, she was reprimanded for her 15% meeting attendance.
When one is AWOL, they are an inadequate representative for whomever they are representing. Since a significant portion of Minnesota’s economy is focused on Agriculture, Craig is the Ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee, and her additional Federal experience allows her to hit the ground running. Versus needing to have a training period.
Some misguided people believe one of the reasons to support Flanagan is due to her position on Palestine and Israel, and clearly these foreign policies are important but not more important than domestic issues.
Supporting Muslims over Jews only drags the US into a quagmire. The question of a two-state solution should be discussed and moved forward. In fact, because states are willing to adopt the Palestinians’ departure should be strongly considered. Especially the Sinai Peninsula.
