If you want to be memorable in Minnesota State Capitol politics it is good if you are referred to as something other than your name. It is often helpful when a term or a phrase can be applied to your, group, issue or initiative. If you want to be known as something else, then someone else needs to give to your handle or it is invalid and won’t become a part of the political parlance. We were the ones to coin the name Speaker MAK (Mack) for former Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher (DFL-Minneapolis) and she ran with it.
When we learned about the splinter caucus being called the generic New Republican Caucus made up of Reps Steve Drazkowski (R-21B, Mazeppa), Tim Miller (R-17A, Prinsburg), Calvin Bahr (R-31B, East Bethel) and freshman Jeremy Munson (R-23B, Lake Crystal) we figured the needed a handle. We first the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to be apt. They seem to be spelling doom on now Speaker soon to be Minority Leader Kurt Daudt (R-31A Crown). When we spoke with Drazkowski we asked him how long has he had issues with Daudt? He said, “I have had problems with Daudt since he had been in leadership.” This means the animus has existed since 2013. Now back to the Four Horsemen.
As the passage says in the King James version of the bible.
And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
Now the question is who gets which role. As the senior member, Drazkowski appears to be the leader, though he has said they haven’t designated a leader yet. Now, we know the four to be Pestilence (Conquest), War, Famine, and Death. So, who would get which role in this interesting cast of characters? Since this is a divisive maneuver Drazkowski gets Pestilence i.e. Conquest.
We hear a familiar idea in the corridor of the House when one member who will not be named at this time, said the group should have a name, like a band and he said No Daudt. Now, we will say that is not a unique idea we have thought that was the perfect sign idea for any candidate running against Daudt for years. In fact, https://checksandbalances.com/1-871-billion-surplus-projected-surprise-dfl-seeks-more-spending-and-republicans-tax-cuts/ In this article, you will see how the Tea Party, ones who supported Bahr and Daudt’s PRimary opponent Alan Duff (R) in 2016 parked a white panel van outside of his district..
We also understand there have been repercussions to the split faction. Daudt has directed legislative House staff not do any work for these four legislators. This means the residents of districts 21B, 17A, 31B, and 23B or approximately 164,400 people have no constituent services.
We expect the reason there will be no holiday party is the party people in Senate district 31 are just polar opposites.
Now, that’s sour grapes.
