We are hearing House Speaker Melissa Hortman (DFL-37B, Brooklyn Park) is seeking to curtail the volume of legislation being drafted and wants only members not lobbyists putting bills in the Hopper.
As of today, prior to the start of the today’s legislative sessions the House has 1043 bills (608 DFL & 435 R) and the Senate 1370 (792 DFL & 578 R). The most prolific bill authors in the Senate remain the same and they are Sens Eric Lucero (R-30, St Michael) vaults to the head of the pack with 64, Rich Draheim (R-22, Madison Lake) slides back to second with 59, and Mary Kunesh (DFL-39, New Brighton) is holding in third with 45.
In the House, the names and positions are the same, but few more bills added to the calculus. The top three bill authors in the House are still Reps Duane Quam (R-24A, Bryon) with 54, Rick Hansen (DFL-53B, South St Paul) with 27, and Kristin Robbins (R-37A, Maple Grove) with 28.
In the house, there are 270 bills with Capital Investment as their subject and 250 in the senate
