As we are watching the the Speaker’s election in Washington DC, and the problems Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-20, CA) is having, we think an open speculation about the possibility of Congressman Tom Emmer (R-6, MN) being a compromise choice is a real possibility. If the Freedom Caucus doesn’t relinquish their hold on this process, something will have to give.
As the Majority Whip-elect, Emmer is in the 3rd position in leadership, so if McCarthy were to concede and withdraw, and the Republican Conference looks around, Emmer is someone they all know, and he was instrumental in their being in the majority, granted a far smaller one then the anticipated.
