Minnesota Report

Much commentary has been made about how the State Senate, the upper body has shown more decorum than has the House. This is except when they are trying to expel Sen Nicole Mitchell (DFL-47, Woodbury). Yesterday, Sen Jordan Rasmuson (R-09, Fergus Falls) moved to do such. This is a futile and purely political maneuver, which is destined for failure until the legal proceedings for Mitchell is completed.

Constitution of the State of Minnesota

ARTICLE IV

LEGISLATIVE DEPARTMENT

Sec. 7. Rules of gvernment.

Each house may determine the rules of its proceedings, sit upon its own adjournment, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and with the concurrence of two-thirds expel a member; but no member shall be expelled a second time for the same offense.

Until Mitchell, is convicted of a felony, she has every right and obligation to serve her constituents. Now, granted Republicans are salivating and waiting for her to be convicted or resign and then a resulting special election, which will provide their opportunity to possibly for Republicans to again control the Senate by one-vote.

Keeping this as an ongoing issue is merely a political stunt and beneath the dignity of the Senate.
