Minnesota Politics

We have hear an interesting “rumor” about St Paul City Mayor Melvin Carter III (DFL-St. Paul) and if true, he is axiously waiting for Governor Tim Walz (DFL-MN) to announce his future plans and is looking seriously at a gubernatorial run. Now, we’re unclear as to if it would be as an incumbent or as an unencumbered candidate out of office. What we mean is does he actually even run for reelection, especially if he were to be beaten.

We know of a poll, which was done in St Paul, which had a head-to-head match up with Carter, with declared candidate Yan Chen (DFL), City Council President Rebecca Noecker (DFL-St Paul, Ward 2) and former St Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell, were unsure of party label he would apply. Now, Axtell performed the best, but in each instance Carter prevailed, interestingly, Noecker, finished last.

As we previously wrote, in our article Support Building Against St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter III — Why? Incompetence. The amount of strong support for Carter is flagging. Many people are saying they believe a credible candidate has a shot at unseating him, and looking at his January Campaign Finance Report he only had $26,000 in the bank, which is not much to rely on.

In a multi-candidate Ranked Choice Voting contest, the lowest vote recipients votes are all subject to “Batch Elimination” if it is determined they have no path to victory calculated from the remaining votes.
