Minnesota Report

Announcement of an agreement between the state of Minnesota and its public employee unions AFSCME Council 5 and MAPE was announced yesterday, with new contracts resulting in raises of 5.5 percent this summer and 4.5 percent next year.

This differs greatly from the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 663, which has announced its strike authorization at Lunds and Byerly’s. This combined with the Informational Pick earlier this year at Cub Foods and the MNA Nurse’s strike last year, shows how the difference between public and private unions exists.

When it is public money to pay the freight, it is an easier agreement compared to dealing with privately held companies.
