In the aftermath of the US Capitol insurrection, while watching a news story about State Capitol Security we witnessed a disturbing picture. The fence surrounding the building is linked together with a set of standard handcuffs. Now, this may seem to be an ingenious way to provide a lock and key system, but handcuff keys are easily obtainable and can be purchased for a couple of dollars from a uniform store.
This means if the officers in close proximity were to become incapacitated there is little more than the need for a person to pull out a key from their keyring and gain access into the Capitol Complex. We think this issue should be addressed now, so that potential threats can be abated and, in our mind, this a simple one.
