Minnesota Report
The election year, along with the open US Senate seat, and the open 2nd Congressional District seat there is an open seat for Governor & Lt Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor, all state house seats and in this decade all state senate seats. (The state senate seats are inline with the Presidential election every other decade).
Because she entered the race after the start of the year, we will not be able to see any information about the receipts or expenditures for the Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) Campaign until the pre-Primary report in late July. In spite of this reality, we expect she will have no problem fundraising from her nationwide database or even here locally. The more significant question will be how robustly her future opponent on the Republican side will be able to curry favor with supporters pre-Primary, followed by how enthusiastic people will be after the August 4th Primary to dig deep and pony up more money for the General Election.
Because of the crowded field on the GOP side they will need to carve each other up in order to garner attention, elicit financial support, and show performance at every turn. Even though Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) is not seeking relection, he is still in office and when he speaks he can tamp down any criticisms against his administration, through decisive action after-the-fact, which may seem too little too late to many, but is an opportunity to rein in future problems.
This also is an opportunity for the state legislature to bring forward specific oversight and controls prevent future problems. All of this will be in the hands of the Governor in 2027.
Governor
In 2025, as Republicans sought to capaitalize on the blame game politics surrounding fraud and threw chum into the water regularly and bring more attention to the issue, Governor Walz was was slow to declare his election intentions. He seemed flatfooted and caught unaware of the severity of his own PR problems, and in turn the slow bleed of his polling numbers basically declined to what we consider to be the base of the DFL vote, which is 43%.
The one surviving reality is the pure and simple fact, no Republican has won a statewide office since Governor Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) in 2006 and he did so with his second plurality of 46.69%.
With this as the backdrop, we will be writing our future articles based this reality, certain aspirants will come up far short of their goal. To this end, we will present the candidates we measure by actual results as features in our stories. Our criteria will vary depending on the issue. We will identify the factors at he front of what we write. In this article, it will be a measureable factors Straw Poll Results and Finances from their End-of-the Year Reports.
