Minnesota Report
When Republicans under the leadership of Jeremy Miller (R-28, Winona) decided against a compromise on spending the 9.235 billion surplus with Governor Tim Walz (DFL-MN) and House Speaker Melissa Hortman (DFL-36B, Brooklyn Park) they likely assured no invite to the negotiations table for the 2023-24 legislative session.
Too cute by half.
As we said, throughout the discussions, or lack thereof, there never was a need for a Bonding Bill, requiring a 60% majority, because the legislature could pass all needed as a spending bill which only takes a 50% + 1 majority. Now, Republican input is not necessary.
It is interesting, while angling for the Republican Trifecta, they came up not only short but with Butkus. While planning for the election to deliver, they misread the electorate, and now are left holding the proverbial bag.
