Minnesota Report
On Saturday, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN05) easily fended an endorsement challenge from former Minneapolis Schoolboard and City Council Member Don Samuels (DFL). The contest was over quickly since Omar secured 59% on the first ballot.
Leading into the day, Omar announced the endorsement of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA12) and MN Attorney General Keith Ellison (DFL-MN). Our observation of her website shows a number of people who are no longer elected officials but there are names have not been removed or their change in status clarified.
In fact, we are interested to see the names of Governor Tim Walz (DFL-MN) and US Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) listed because their endorsement for 2022 have not been given, what we see is a 2020 list, and in fact there was a push from the Omar Campaign to get Smith and US Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) onboard because Walz was, which we understand he was not.
Since, Samuels is intending to take this to a Primary, we will see when the list of endorsements is actually clean and pristine and what new announcements come forward.
