National & Minnesota Report
Our focus is mostly on politics and there is a great amount of politics associated with acts of terrorism. We were penning our Election Day predictions and talking with a source when the events in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC had begun. This will provide a great test for our nation and the resolve of our people. The thousands of people who lost their lives should not be forgotten and should be avenged.
This is an act of war and akin to December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor, HI. Television pictures of the events were rather surreal and looked more like the movie Independence Day rather than a clear and bright New York Harbor. Publisher Shawn Towle was stationed in the Coast Guard in New York City and remembers going to the top of the World Trade Center in 1983 and now 18 years later the Twin Towers are no more.
This tragedy must be responded to in the strongest fashion or else the terror will continue and America and Americans will increasingly become the world’s targets. A swift response is the only response and the target should be any terrorist entity whether they were directly involved or not. America has been a target for many years and this is the second time it has happened upon our shores. The people who committed this act have no value for human life and so their lives should be forfeited be they foreign or domestic.
Our country has been shaken to its core. Our economy will be adversely affected and our way of life will dramatically change. Everyone will know where they were on the morning of September 11, 2001, hopefully, we will become a better nation for the experience rather than a fearful one. Many pundits have realized that today’s date, September 11, is numerically referred to as 9-11.
Minnesota is on alert and ready to respond. Governor Jesse Ventura (IP-MN) has called for calm, not allowing terrorists to win the day and continue on with our daily lives. The Midwest is likely to become a safe haven for people from the Eastern seaboard. This will bring its own challenges and will create the opportunity for our Midwestern sensibilities and our humanity to show the true content of our character.
