Minnesota Report

The situation in the Minnesota Senate, though the margin nearly as razor tin after the death of former Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic (DFL-60, Minneapolis) at 33-33, the expected reult in the December 27th Special Election is expected to be filled by a DFL member and the DFL Majority retained, but because Sen Nicole Mitchell (DFL-47, Woodbury) has stated she will not vote on the Senate Floor while her burglury trial is underway, the body will be locked at 33-33.

With the majorty pending the result of Mitchell’s case, where if convicted of a felony she will be forced to resign, and any lessor conviction would allow her to stay. The reality for the Senate Republicans is they are in the minority until the court case is over and now unlike the House, where the judge ruled to maintain the status quo, the Senate Majority totally is dependent on the court result and if needed an ensuing Special Election, which is yet to be determined.
