State Rep Erin Murphy (DFL-64A, St Paul) and State Auditor Rebecca Otto (DFL-MN), both candidates for governor, may experience their own form of backlash with the delegates to the DFL state convention due to their calls for the resignation of US Senator Al Franken (D-MN) prior to any action by the US Senate Ethics Committee.

Now, this will be dictated largely by whether or not long-time DFL delegates make up the complexion of the 2018 convention or if the composition is strongly influenced by new participants. In 2016 2/3 of the delegates were US Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) supporters and it will be contingent upon whether or not the people from 2016 show up or people from the past. We will again point out Sanders is not a Democrat and his influence largely undermines the DFL Party.

We are not sure of the full impact, but as has already been noted other candidates who have received contributions from major donors, the stance against Franken is not going away quietly.
